Second Half of Sapporo Olympic Marathon Course to be Two Laps of 10 km Loop
Moved from Tokyo to Sapporo, the 2020 Olympic marathon route was once mounted Dec. 18 with its prior to now undetermined 2d part to consist of two laps of a 10 km loop. World Athletics authorized of the plan, which has runners doing laps of the northern part of the 20 km first part of the route. The Olympic Organizing Committee will officially announce the route on Dec. 19.
World Athletics and the Organizing Committee were butting heads over what to do in regards to the final 22.195 km of the route, with the world staff insisting on 3 laps of a 7 km loop and the organizers short of to run the 20 km first loop a 2d time. As a compromise, the organizers prompt the two-lap 10 km path. The 10 km loop in large part overlaps with the already established 20 km first part and has the merit of lowering preparation and control prices when compared to World Athletics’ 7 km loop plan.
