On Sunday, December 22nd, I ran the 2019 Mount Dora Half Marathon. It was once my 3rd yr operating the race, and was once one of the difficult yr for me so far. The reason why I say this is as it rained nearly all of the race. Made for a little bit of a problem, however that didn’t forestall me from getting it accomplished.
The day sooner than the race, I drove over to Mount Dora to pick out up my race packet. It’s a few 35 minute power, so it’s no longer too a long way away. When I arrived, I simply picked up my race packet after which bumped into fellow BibRavePro Samantha. We then had the chance to talk a little bit, and met Olympian Bill Rodgers who was once on the match. He was once so nice to speak to!
When race morning arrived, I was hoping the rain within the forecast would by some means take a hike. Unfortunately, that didn’t occur. When I arrived, I simply parked in a close-by parking storage which was once nice. It labored out no longer simplest as it was once as regards to the beginning/end line, however that it was once lined. This ended up being the place numerous us frolicked sooner than the race so lets keep as dry as imaginable.
About 15 mins sooner than 7am, we walked over to the place to begin. Made it over in time for the social media workforce image which was once a laugh sooner than the race started. I then walked towards the again of the beginning corral with a few my Orlando Galloway buddies. We determined to begin in combination and spot the way it went.
I stopped up operating lots of the race with my runner good friend, Meg. We used 30:30 run/stroll durations and I used to be feeling lovely just right. Despite the rain, we saved a good tempo and chatted to stay one every other motivated. I had was hoping lets end in three:15, however figured we’d see the way it went.
Because of the rain, I must be fair and say numerous the miles all over this race mix in combination for me. We did have sessions of time when it was once slightly raining/drizzling fortunately. The worst second was once when it almost down powered for a couple of mins and the wind picked up. But, that handed reasonably briefly which I do know I used to be thankful for.
The closing 5k was once a mix of a little bit of exhaustion to start with, then I felt a little bit higher and was once ready to push myself to the end. I stopped in three:20:43, which whilst no longer what I had was hoping for, I used to be lovely just right with. It was once five mins slower than my OUC Orlando Half Marathon time.
Since I’ve been coping with with my shortness of breath/bronchial asthma problems in recent years, I’m k with how this race went. I didn’t revel in any shortness of breath problems all of the 13.1 miles. Not positive if it was once for the reason that rain saved the allergens down or what, however no matter it’s, I’m glad about it. Despite the rain, this race was once a good way to finish my racing in 2019.
